John Van Klaveren has more than 30 years experience in media, public relations and marketing. He has worked as a journalist, photojournalist, editor, consultant, writer and manager for organisations as varied as Geelong Advertiser, World Vision, Geelong Business News and Gordon Institute of TAFE.
He is currently the senior journalist for the Geelong Independent and a part time tutor at Deakin University.

His experience has taken him around Australia and to several far-flung corners of the globe. He has gathered material for print, radio and television while covering situations such as the Ethiopian famine of the mid-80s, the Lebanese civil war in the late 80s and the first gulf war from Jordan.
John holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism; an Advanced Diploma of Management; an Advanced Diploma of Business (Public Relations); an Advanced Diploma of Marketing; and a Certificate IV in Small Business Management.
